The town is nestled on a cliff at an altitude of 300 metres, a feature which is striking for all those who come for the first time.
The town is part of the Alto Astigiano Hill Community and is widely known as the “land of saints and wines”. This primarily refers to San Giovanni Bosco (aka St. John Bosco, founder of the Salesian order), San Giuseppe Cafasso and San Domenico Savio.
The town features the medieval Tower of Rivalba, once surrounded by the castle. Two churches, out of several, deserve at least a glance: Madonna del Castello (Our Lady of the Castle) from the Baroque era and the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea (Church of St. Andrew).
Located a few kilometres from the centre of Castelnuovo, on the Colle Don Bosco, long a destination for tourists eager to admire the Temple of Don Bosco, the church of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice, the Ethnographic Museum of the Salesian Missions Around the World (Museo etnografico e delle missioni salesiane nel mondo) and the Museum of 19th Century Rural Life (Museo della vita contadina dell’800), in addition, of course, to the birthplace of the saint himself.
The Romanesque Vezzolano Abbey is located on the spot where once stood a Roman settlement and before that a Celtic town dedicated to the worship of nature. The Burgundian Romanesque style sets it apart, along with countless symbols on the origins and royal descent of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by the famous tympanum depicting Christ as a triumphant king and the royal descent of Jesus from David to Solomon.
Tenuta Tamburnin is 25Km from Turin, 12Km from Chieri and 30Km from Asti.
